Remove the AI label on X (Twitter)

On X (Twitter), AI-generated content is signaled in two ways: provenance labels based on C2PA that the image itself carries, and notes or notices the community or the platform can add. Embedded metadata is the part you can control before you post.

Remove IA Label removes C2PA/JUMBF credentials, EXIF and XMP without recompressing your image. It does not alter the pixels or affect other detection mechanisms, but it leaves the file free of the provenance data that travels inside it.

How X shows the label

X can expose an image’s Content Credentials (C2PA) and also rely on Community Notes to mark content as generated or manipulated with AI. Embedded credentials are what X reads directly from the file you upload.

How to remove it, step by step

Nuance and false positives

When you upload an image, X processes it on its side, so some metadata may disappear anyway; even so, C2PA credentials are exactly what you want to remove first. Remember that Community Notes and other systems can flag an image without looking at its metadata, and pixel-level watermarks are not touched.

Final tip

Clean the file before you attach it to the post. If you pass it through an editor after cleaning, check again that it did not write provenance credentials back.

Frequently asked questions

Does X read C2PA credentials on my images?

Yes, X can display embedded Content Credentials. Removing them with the /c2pa mode before you post stops that information from traveling with your image.

Does cleaning metadata avoid Community Notes?

No. Community notes are based on people’s judgment, not on metadata. Cleaning the file does not affect them.

Does uploading to X already strip metadata by itself?

X reprocesses images and may remove part of the metadata, but you should not rely on that. Cleaning first gives you control over which credentials travel in the original file.

Which formats can I upload to the tool?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF and HEIC (not GIF), up to 5 photos and 100 MB per batch.
