Why does Instagram show “AI info”?

Meta and other platforms scan C2PA credentials and XMP tags in each file to flag content generated or edited with AI. Detection is based on file metadata — not on analyzing every pixel — so an export from Photoshop, Lightroom or Canva that leaves a provenance trail can label a real photo.

What we remove

All of it without recompressing: the pixels stay identical (we check by comparing the image hash before and after).

What this tool does NOT do

We do not touch invisible pixel-level watermarks, such as Google’s SynthID: that lives in the image, not in the headers. Platforms can also use signals other than metadata. Cleaning credentials reduces the automatic label, but it is not an absolute guarantee.

Recommended flow: check first, then clean

Use the checker to see exactly what your photo carries. If you see AI C2PA, XMP or IPTC, run it through the cleaner. For a specific target there are dedicated modes: C2PA, EXIF and XMP.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded somewhere?

Yes: they are processed on our server with ExifTool and automatically deleted after 5 minutes. We do not keep them, train on them, or add a watermark. No account required.

Does it affect photo quality?

No. We only rewrite metadata headers; pixels are not re-encoded. The image stays identical (verified by hash).

Does it guarantee the AI label will disappear?

We cannot guarantee that. We remove the metadata and credentials that usually trigger the label, but platforms can detect by other means, and we do not touch pixel-level watermarks (for example SynthID).

Which formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF and HEIC. GIF is not supported. Up to 5 photos and 100 MB per batch.

Does it remove invisible watermarks?

No. Marks such as SynthID are embedded in the pixels, not in the metadata, and this tool does not modify pixels.

Is it legal to remove the AI label?

Cleaning metadata from your own images is generally legal. Using it to deceive or commit fraud is a different matter, and that does not depend on the tool.

Should I use the checker or the cleaner first?

Start with the checker to see what the file contains. If there are AI credentials, then clean it.

What are EXIF, XMP and C2PA?

They are kinds of metadata: EXIF (camera/GPS data), XMP (origin and editing tags) and C2PA (provenance credentials that platforms read). More in the glossary.

How many images can I process for free?

As many as you want, in batches of up to 5 photos and 100 MB. Free, no account.
